About this coffee

Martin started growing coffee about ten years ago. His farm, Magic Estate, is located 150 km north of Nairobi. Situated at an altitude of 1800 m, the family farm has 5 hectares of coffee trees. Martin also produces macadamia nuts. He supplements his activities with various crops for his family consumption or for the local market, such as bananas and avocados. A small pond at the bottom of the garden is also used to raise some fish.

Martin is part of the MECOP producers' association, an association of small Kenyan producers led by David Maguta, which works exclusively with Belco to develop the European market and become more independent from the Kenyan sector, which operates with an auction system without traceability.

The farm Magic Estate

La ferme de Martin Gichuchi se situe à 150 km au Nord de Nairobi. En mélangeant les premières lettres de son nom, il a formé l’appellation de cette ferme : Magic Estate. Située à 1800 m d’altitude, les parcelles de cette ferme familiale abrite 5 hectares de caféiers. Martin produit aussi des noix de macadamia pour l’export. Il complète ses activités avec différentes cultures pour sa consommation familiale ou pour le marché local comme la récolte de bananes et d’avocats. Un petit bassin au fond du jardin permet aussi l’élevage de quelques poissons.

    A few words about Martin Gichuchi Mamicha

    Martin Gichuchi Mamicha used to work at the Postal Cooperation of Kenya, between Nyeri and Mombassa. He left this job to come back in his family place, around Nyeri. He started growing coffee a decade ago. Since then he works to manage properly his family farm and to produce quality coffee.
