About this coffee

Our Mombacho coffee comes from the Sajonia Estate cooperative in the Matagalpa region. Manfred Guenke has been the manager of the cooperative since 2016. He represents the third generation of coffee growers, with a new vision of farming practices, particularly through projects to support growers, such as the Campesinos Programme.

The Campesinos Programme supports 300 producer families in the Jinotega and Matagalpa regions with logistical assistance. This includes help with collecting coffee and technical advice to improve the quality and marketing of the coffees.

The challenge is also to preserve the traditional agroforestry practices used to produce this coffee, so that the cherries ripen slowly.

The region Jinotega

Department located in the central area of Nicaragua, Jinotega has 4 coffee-producing mountain ranges which are: Isabela, San Juan del Río Coco, Wiwili and Apanásen. Jinotega represents 38% of Arabica coffee production in Nicaragua and together with Matagalpa, they represent almost 70% of national coffee production.

Coffee is grown from 800 meters in the driest areas to 1,500 meters of altitude in the wetter areas; All the producing mountain ranges have exceptional agroecological conditions because they are highly fertile, with a high diversity of nutrients and a wide biodiversity of fauna and flora. The soils in the highest areas are of volcanic origin while the rest are lands formed by river sediments.
