In 2005, the Braune family realised their dream of setting up their own roastery. Bernd’s experience both behind the counter and in producer countries made him realise that to appreciate a coffee’s full range of flavour profiles you need a quality. grind. And he quickly saw that it was impossible to find a professional quality portable grinder on the market. The electric grinders on sale at the time were heavy, expensive, and above all unsuitable for domestic use and travelling.
As a result of his work with family and friends, Bernd has managed to create an efficient, precise, convenient, userfriendly and simply beautiful portable tool : Comandante C40 hand grinder. The result? A perfect, homogeneous grind thanks to sharp grinding blade edges that cut coffee beans rather than crushing them.
This grinder was designed from the perspective of environmental protection and sustainability. Made in Germany, Bernd uses local raw materials whenever possible, with for example a wood that is FSC certified and sourced from southern Germany. The grinders are assembled and checked one by one at the Comandante premises.
The brand is also involved in environmental projects. It has planted 1,000 trees in partnership with The Barn and provided financial support for social projects and local children’s organisations.
