About this cacao

In 2023, we decided to visit the producers in Martinique, guided by Kora and Valcaco. After checking their agroforestry production and agreeing on the quality, we decided to bring this cocoa to Europe in a unique way.

Thanks to the work of Louis Mayaud, Belco's leader in decarbonising transport, we transported the cocoa from Martinique to France by sailing boat. Why say no?

32 Imocas each transported 1 bag of 22 kilos from Martinique to Lorient during the "Retour à la Base" race.

This load is very important for Belco. It is the starting point of Belco's and the producers' commitment to decarbonising transport, paving the way for all our cocoa to be transported by sailboat in 2024, in partnership with TOWT.

A few words about Valcaco

It only takes a few seconds after meeting Kora Bernabe, VALCACO's President, to be inspired. Martinique's cacao is hugely indebted to her for its quality and availability in recent years.

VALCACO, the Martinique cacao producers' association, was set up in 2015 with the aim of relaunching a cacao industry of excellence in Martinique. It brings together 50 producers and employs people responsible for processing the pods into cacao (fermentation, drying) in a centralised way, guaranteeing a high level of traceability and quality.
