A producer, former volleyball player
This Nyala coffee comes from the DWD station called Assefa, after the son of Dukale.
Ato Dukale was born near Bensa in the Sidama region, where his parents already had a coffee farm. At the age of 16, he started working in small businesses in the region, such as selling clothes in Dilla or sugar cane. But his interest soon turned to coffee. He travelled extensively in his home region to collect a few sacks from the various Sidama farmers. Ato Dukale and his wife gave their 8 children the best education possible.
In the late 1980s, he built his first washing station in Daye Bensa, which he named "Awraja and his family". Awraja was the name of the department where he lived as a young man, a name used under the Derg but which has since disappeared. It was mostly Ato Dukale's nickname when he was a famous volleyball player and travelled around the country with his team in the colours of his district: Bensa Awraja!
Since then, his business has flourished and Dukale Wakayo Dakola now has 16 collection centres in the Sidama and Yirgacheffe regions. The company has been taken over by Ato Dukale's sons, Assafa, Shahsamo and Yamrot, who continue to work with their father to produce high quality coffee.

Zone Sidama
The area covered by the Sidama appellation is very large, stretching over 500 km: the coffees have very different profiles! Sidama is the name of the appellation, but above all it is the name of the people of southern Ethiopia. Sidamo is a negative term used by people from the north to refer to the Sidama people of the south.
