Forest coffee from Goma terroir

This forest coffee is collected from various producers in the Goma district. These farmers bring their cherries to Mana Mufti, the drying station run by Mustafa Mohamed Ali, with whom we have been working since 2016.

It's here that Mustafa and his teams prepare this honey coffee, which we've been buying since 2021, and which dries with its mucilage, as they worked with our agronomic engineers.

Mustafa was quick to show his enthusiasm for this process, which uses less water, is more respectful of the environment, and is always more qualitative thanks to Mustafa's great motivation for quality.

The station Mana mufti

Mana Mufti is a drying station belonging to Mustafa Mohamed Ali. For many years, it was the site of his father's Koranic school. In Oromo, Mana means house, and mufti refers to a Muslim religious dignitary, as was Mustafa's father. Today, this is where farmers from the surrounding area bring their cherries, which are then prepared in various processes, including honey.

A few words about Mustafa Mohamed Ali

Mustafa Mohamed Ali is a long-standing Belco producer, to whom he has been selling his coffee since 2016 when he obtained his export licence. His business is part of a family tradition, the legacy of which he seeks to maintain. This producer's family has been producing and selling coffee since the 1950s, particularly to Yemeni traders who used to come to his region to buy coffee. When Mohamed Ali took over the management of the family plots in the 1980s, he immediately set about maintaining the coffee trees planted by his father.

His relatively small plots of land are planted with endemic varieties, derived from wild coffee trees in the Choche forest. To be more independent and have greater control over his production, he has invested in drying and washing plants. As well as coffee, he also produces milk and honey.
