Located just 60 kilometers southwest of Bogotá, Mesitas del Colegio—commonly known as El Colegio—lies in the heart of the Tequendama province of Cundinamarca. Surrounded by the mountains of the Eastern Andes, its landscape blends fertile slopes, lush valleys, and the waters of the Bogotá River, creating a setting that is both naturally beautiful and agriculturally rich.

Coffee is cultivated here between 1,200 and 1,800 meters above sea level, an altitude range that fosters the production of distinctive, high-quality beans. The climate is mild and humid, with average temperatures between 18 and 24 °C and rainfall of 1,500 to 2,000 mm per year, distributed across two rainy seasons. Volcanic and clay-rich soils further enrich the terroir, contributing depth and complexity to the cup.

Coffees from Mesitas del Colegio are known for their bright, fruity acidity, a pronounced sweetness reminiscent of sugarcane and honey, and a medium, silky body. Flavor notes often include citrus, ripe fruits, floral hints, cocoa, and nuts, resulting in balanced and expressive cups. 

In the heart of Colombia, surrounding the nation’s capital Bogotá, lies Cundinamarca—a region where history, tradition, and geography converge to produce coffees of remarkable character. While widely recognized as an economic and political hub, Cundinamarca also holds deep agricultural roots, with coffee playing an essential role in its rural identity.

The department’s landscape is diverse, ranging from warm valleys at 1,100 meters above sea level to high mountain slopes reaching nearly 2,000 meters. With temperatures between 17 and 24 °C, abundant rainfall throughout the year, and fertile volcanic and sedimentary soils, Cundinamarca offers ideal conditions for cultivating high-quality coffee.

Coffee is grown across several provinces: Tequendama, Gualivá, Sumapaz, Rionegro, and the Bajo Magdalena, where smallholder farmers combine ancestral knowledge with modern practices. Each microregion contributes distinctive profiles—from the sweet and balanced coffees of Tequendama and Gualivá, to the bright, fruit-forward cups of Sumapaz, and the traditional, medium-bodied coffees of the Magdalena valleys.
