The village of Tirtira Goyo lies around 400 km south of Addis Ababa, in the Guji appellation. It is home to a number of washing stations, in direct contact with local farmers who produce top-quality coffees.
Coffee trees thrive here in a rich natural environment, with a mix of different tree species. The specific presence of the enset tree is particularly favourable to coffee growing. This tree, also known as the false banana tree, is typical of southern Ethiopia. When ground, its trunk produces a flour whose nutritional value has long been recognised by the local population. This large trunk also acts as a water reservoir, storing water from the rainy season to moisten the soil during the dry season.
