Since the 1950s, coffee cultivation has been a longstanding tradition in this region. Presently, nearly every farm on the mountain has transformed into a coffee-producing unit, turning what was once one of the poorest and most isolated areas of Guatemala into a vibrant and flourishing community.
Situated on a former volcanic range, Oriente experiences regular rainfall and cloud cover. Its soil composition consists of metamorphic rock, providing a balanced mineral profile distinct from soils in regions that have undergone volcanic activity since the inception of coffee planting.
