About

The Shantawene farm is located in the Sidama appellation in the Bensa district. This Sidama appellation offers a specific cup profile, with a nice sweetness and yellow fruit notes. The Odako micro-lot is selected by Daye Bensa, from lots produced by neighbouring farmers on their Shantawene farm. These highly selective batches complement the beans grown directly by Daye Bensa. In this village, coffee is produced in the heart of a polyculture system, where coffee trees grow alongside food crops. The passage of the Borana River maintains the humidity of the soil for these different productions. These agricultural systems are ancient, well managed and based on cultivation methods that are now considered responsible. The protection of the environment is at the heart of Daye Bensa's preoccupations, and he participates in a reforestation programme set up by the Ministry of Agriculture in the Bensa area.
Finally, very concerned about participating in the social improvement of the inhabitants of the Bensa district, the family group sets up bonus systems for the farmers it works with. Above all, Daye Bensa supplies several thousand notebooks and pencils to schools in neighbouring villages every year.
