Rio Brilhante is located in the municipality of Coromandel, within Cerrdao Mineiro. The farm takes its name from the river that runs through it.
Inacio Carlos Urban, the producer, bought the farm in 1976 and is now the second generation to run it.
The farm covers 3,300 hectares. 1500 of these are given over to the production of 14 different varieties of coffee, including the Arara variety, which is as resilient as it is productive, and recognisable by its yellow cherries.
Environmental protection is an important part of the farm
- Protected forest covers more than a third of the farm
- Reforestation project around the farm's water points
- Farm certified by Rain Forest Alliance
Quality
The farm is fully mechanised and the coffee is processed on site. The beans are dried on the patio and cured by the quality team.
The coffee is then prepared for export to Patos de Minas, a warehouse 50 km away.
Several training programs are offered to the 87 employees
- Literacy program
- 70% financing of higher education for volunteers
Attention is also paid to the education of children
- Funding of schools and nurseries for employees' children
- Teaching at the Escolinha Tia Edna school for more than 450 children aged 2 to 4
- Projeto João e Maria: psychological support and entrepreneurship courses for children aged 7-14
