About this coffee

André Meléndez's family has been involved in agriculture all his life, especially cattle farming. His father, Welter, had been a coffee farmer for more than 20 years. In 2021, market prices were so low that Welter wanted to sell the farm and concentrate on cattle.

His son André persuaded him to continue in this direction by investing in post-harvest processing.

Region Fraijanes

Fraijanes is the second-largest coffee-producing region in the country. This region is home to over 6,408 families who cultivate more than 12,814.85 hectares of Arabica coffee from the Bourbon, Caturra, Catuaí, and Pache varieties. The region is characterized by its volcanic soil and high altitude. The Pacaya volcano, the most active of the three erupting volcanoes in Guatemala, periodically deposits a light layer of ash in the area, providing crucial mineral enrichment to the soil.

A few words about André Melendez

In 2021, Welter wanted to stop growing coffee because it was no longer profitable and concentrate on cattle and milk production. His son André, then 24, persuaded him to make one last effort and decided to invest in modernising the farm's processing facilities. Today they are equipped with a new Penagos pulper, a mechanical dryer and patios.
