ABOUT

This quite unique blend was born of a desire to spotlight a somewhat forgotten variety of coffee, called Pink Bourbon. Eleven producers in the department of Caldas in central Colombiawere chosen for this project, from the neighbouring municipalities of Acevedo, Palestina and Pitalito. This unique coffee is a blend of three varieties: 1 lot of Yellow Bourbon, 2 lots of Red Bourbon and 17 separate lots of Pink Bourbon.
All are cultivated at an altitude of between 1,700 and 1,900 metres. Creating this blend of Bourbon has been no easy feat, because it is a variety that produces a lower yield than its Castillo, Caturra and Colombia congeners, which are much more popular throughout Colombia.
Growing Bourbon is also more expensive for the producer because it requires more meticulous care during the harvest, the pickers need more guidanceand the lots are separated. Picking is slower and each variety must be isolated during processing.

It is for all these reasons that the other very important aim of this project was to pay the producers well above the market rate.
Coffee producers in Colombia are paid by the carga, which is equivalent to 125 kg of parchment coffee. Why 125 kg? Quite simply because it is the weight carried by one mule.
The current market price in Colombia is about 695,000 COP (Colombian pesos) per carga. Our partner pays the producers of this coffee 1,650,000 pesos, in other words 2.3 times more than the market price.

HUILA

The story
of the producer

Eleven producers in the department of Caldas in central Colombia were chosen for this project, from the neighbouring municipalities of Acevedo, Palestina and Pitalito.

They all produce high-quality coffees in similar terroirs and share the same vision and the same passion, that of cultivating and promotingthesomewhat forgotten Pink Bourbonvariety.
