ABOUT

This coffee comes from the Veracruz region and is produced by our partner Don Pepe. Don Pepe is a local Mexican company situated in the city of Huatusco that has been buying, processing and exporting coffee from small producers in the Veracruz region since 1994. It buysits coffee as cherries (unlike many processors who buy coffee already in parchment form), so itcan effectively monitor product quality. Again, for the purposes of traceability, all the coffees are processed at Huatusco. It has a washing and drying station, which means itcan provide coffees created using different processes, including high-quality fully-washed Robusta coffees.

This Premium coffee, grown in a volcanic soil at altitudes of between 1,200 and 1,500 metres, is fully washed, unlike many other Mexican coffees which are often simply “washed”. By working with Don Pepe, not only can we guarantee excellent traceability, but we are also supporting a local and Mexican partner working hard to promote the local industry.

THE TERROIR OF HUATUSCO

The Huatusco terroir offers a particularly rich volcanic soil which, coupled with the high altitudes, provides all the conditions necessary for obtaining a very fine quality coffee. Our partner Don Pepe, a local Mexican company, promotes the region’s coffee industry by exporting coffee from local farms, thereby also ensuring perfect traceability. Producers throughout Mexico sell their coffee in parchment form. The only exception is the micro region of Huatusco, which sells it as cherries for cultural and traditional reasons. Don Pepe therefore buys all ofits coffee as cherries in a country where this is the exception to the rule!
