About this coffee

This coffee from Benti Nenka, in the Guji appellation, is collected by our partner EDN Ethiopian Coffee from 400 family farms of 1 to 2 hectares maximum. Growing coffee is an integral part of the lives of the farmers around the Benti Nenka station. It is here that the coffee is processed after harvesting.

After a meticulous selection process, the cherries are fermented in an anaerobic, pressurised, oxygen-free environment. This fermentation lasts between 7 and 10 days, at a temperature of between 15 and 18 °C. During this time, the plant's employees monitor the sugar levels to ensure the best possible result.

The coffee is then transferred to the station's drying beds, where it rests in the shade for between 15 and 20 days. The cherries are stirred regularly to ensure good air circulation and avoid over-fermentation. When the coffee reaches 11% humidity, it is ready for export.

The farm Benti Nenka

Benti Nenka lies in the southern part of the Guji area, known for its ideal altitude, abundant rainfall and rich soils, all of which contribute to the exceptional quality of the coffee grown here. Growing coffee is an integral part of community life. Most farms are between 1 and 2 hectares in size. Coffee is picked by hand by the landowners and their families, and is grown in association with other food crops. This approach maximises land use while providing food for the community.

    Meet EDN - Ethiopian Coffee

A few words about EDN - Ethiopian Coffee

EDN - Ethiopian Coffee harvests coffee from the family farms that surround each of their stations, in the Guji and Gedeo (Yirgacheffe) areas. The farms with which EDN works are small, ranging from 1 to a few hectares maximum. The EDN stations are located in several kebele (villages), such as Benti Nenka, Banko Gotiti, Halo Bereti and Banko Chelchele. There, coffee growing is an integral part of the community's culture. Coffee is always picked by hand, and grown alongside other food crops. This approach maximises the use of the land while providing food for the community.
