About this coffee

For more than ten years, we have been partners of Odyssey Coffees, a project run by producer Emilio López in El Salvador. When we met him, Odyssey was already working on supporting small-scale producers, and when we heard about the project, we immediately wanted to make a positive impact. To develop concrete actions on the ground alongside Odyssey, we determined a price differential for the harvest. And so the 'Growing Together' programme was born!

It has three main pillars: environment, community and sustainability. The team, who were fully aware of the needs of the communities and producers, seized the opportunity to invest this budget in projects that were close to their hearts. They organised their teams between agronomy, production, quality and trade, and played a key role in the projects.

To this day, the project consists of reforesting the Ayutepeque farm by planting shade trees. Around the Las Isabelas farm, a water pump has been installed to give 200 families access to drinking water.

Finally, it also involves training and technical support for the 80 producers who are members of the programme.

The region Apaneca Ilamatepec

Ilamatepec is the largest coffee-producing region in El Salvador, reaching altitudes of up to 2,400 metres. It is very well known for its quality coffee. It is probably where the first coffee tree was planted. This chain of volcanoes, called the Apaneca-Ilamatepec mountain range, includes lots of craters (Ataco, Apaneca, Juayua, etc.) and one of the most active volcanoes in El Salvador, Ilamatepec, also known as Santa Ana. Many local producers have won international competitions, the best represented varieties being Bourbon (64%) and Pacas (26%).
