Originating from the botanical garden of Coffea Diversa, this lot highlights the Geisha Africano variety, an ancient and rare coffee originating from Ethiopia’s wild coffee populations.
Coffea Diversa is a pioneering project founded in the early 2000s by José Padilla and Gonzalo Hernández, driven by a radically different vision of traditional coffee farming. Designed as a coffee botanical garden, the project focuses on preserving, observing, and showcasing coffee’s genetic diversity through the cultivation of hundreds of rare botanical varieties. Today, Coffea Diversa hosts the world’s largest private collection of coffee botanical varieties, with more than 800 specimens, only a portion of which are currently produced as micro-lots.
The Geisha variety is an ancient and very rare coffee originating from south-western Ethiopia, near the town of Gesha, from which it takes its name. Derived from wild Ethiopian coffee populations, it is characterized by a tall growth habit, thin and elongated leaves, and wide spacing between branches along the main stem. Young leaf tips may appear green or slightly reddish, while the beans are elongated. The Geisha variety is also known for its naturally low yields, contributing to its rarity in production.
This approach allows for a faithful and precise expression of the Geisha Africano variety, highlighting clean, elegant, and finely structured profiles closely linked to its genetic heritage and wild origin.
