Busongora cooperative was founded by Muhindo Sylvia in May 2003 as a community-based group aimed at empowering women through savings and credit in Ihani village. It officially registered as a cooperative in 2021. Located in Bugoye Sub-county, Kasese District, the cooperative has a membership of 516, comprising 338 women and 138 men. Its core values include promoting sustainable agriculture, empowering communities, and promoting agro-tourism. The cooperative also operates a coffee shop that doubles as a tourism spot, showcasing coffee farming practices from the farm to the cup.
Coffee is a key income source for most households in Kasese, with the region historically producing Arabica coffee of exceptional quality. However, challenges such as declining soil fertility, erosion, and aging coffee trees affect productivity.
The cooperative operates a demonstration garden where members receive training, alongside essential infrastructure, including a wet processing station and a newly built coffee hulling station.
