This natural-processed coffee comes from the Matapa Michiti Coffee Plantation, located in Michiti Kebele, Gimbo Woreda of the Kaffa Zone, near Ethiopia’s Bonga Forest—widely regarded as the birthplace of Arabica coffee. The farm, owned by exporter Habtamu Abebe.
Established across six plots, the farm features a mix of young and mature trees, with ongoing replanting and stumping practices. The area is rich in biodiversity, shaded by native trees, and follows agroforestry principles, making it an environmentally sustainable coffee farm.
Coffee is harvested from October to December, using selective handpicking. Both natural and washed processing methods are used, with drying conducted on African raised beds at an on-site processing station. Varieties grown include 74110 and 74112, with coffee trees ranging from 1 to 12 years old.
The farm employs around 22 permanent workers and around 280 temporary workers, sourcing cherries from both the estate and small outgrowers in three surrounding kebeles.
