Adola - Nyala
Sidama

About

This Sidama appellation (also known as Sidamo depending on translations) is divided into 4 areas simply distinguished by the letters A, B, C, D. Each of these four areas offers a specific cup profile. The Sidama A appellation, with its sweetness and notes of yellow fruits (apricot, peach), offers the typical Sidama / Sidamo profile. Each is linked to a precise geographical area, which is based on administrative divisions. Thus, the Sidama A appellation extends over: - the Guji zone which consists of the districts (woreda) of Odo Shakisso, Uraga, Hambela, Kercha, Adola and Anassora. - the Sidama zone which consists of the districts of Bensa, Chiré, Aroressa. The Nyala coffee offered this year comes from the Adola woreda, from which it takes its name. This traceability is rare for a coffee from the Terroir range. It was made possible by a recent change in legislation in Ethiopia. Indeed, for 2 years the law has allowed Ethiopian producers to sell their coffee directly as exporters abroad. Previously, this was reserved for producers who cultivated large areas. All others, i.e., the vast majority of Ethiopian producers, had to channel their production through the Addis Ababa Coffee Exchange (EXC), which then organized international sales via the largest exporters. This new traceability allows us to tell you that this year the Nyala coffee was washed at ZB Washing Station (Adola district). This may evolve, and while remaining a Sidama A appellation, other stations may supply this coffee that we always select as Q2, washed, 83+.
