About

The history of Barra do Salitre begins in 1986, when Antonio de Lima Alves planted his first coffee trees. At that time, technical resources were still limited, but the desire to develop quality coffee production was already very present.

In 1987, Leila Lima joined the farm. Thanks to the rural management knowledge passed down by her father, she quickly took on an important role in the administration and development of the farm. Together, Antonio and Leila grew Barra do Salitre, mainly around the Catuaí 99 and Mundo Novo varieties, recognized for their productivity and cup quality.

Over the years, the farm became a true family project. In 2012, their son Guilherme joined the farm after his agronomy studies and brought new technical knowledge, particularly regarding fertilization and productivity improvement. In 2017, Leandro also joined the farm and got involved in the various links of the coffee chain.

This new generation also accompanies an evolution in agricultural practices. Barra do Salitre obtained UTZ certification in 2017 and then Rainforest in 2018, with increased focus on sustainability.

Since 2019, the family has also deepened its work on post-harvest and quality. New varieties, such as Paraíso MG2 and Arara, were introduced to the farm and some coffees reach up to 86 points according to the SCAA protocol. Chocolate, caramel, citrus, and red fruits are part of the sensory profiles found in the coffees produced at Barra do Salitre.

This work carried out on productivity, quality, and agricultural practices allowed the farm to be awarded by Acarpa in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Today, Barra do Salitre continues to evolve at the rhythm of this family story, driven by knowledge transfer, the improvement of practices, and the constant search for quality.
