About

The Moplaco group is not only an exporter but also manages coffee processing facilities. One such facility is located in Segera, in the Bensa district, in the Sidamo appellation. Here, the group prepares coffees that have been collected at two nearby sites. One of the coffees is produced directly by farmers in the village of Segera. The other is collected from farmers who live in the immediate surroundings, higher up in the Kokosamountain. The coffees offered by Belco are named after each of these two sites. They are coffees that are produced at high altitudes (between 1,500 and 2,000 metres) on fertile volcanic soils, which give the beans their character. The farmers work small plots, covering a few hectares at most. The coffee is often grown alongside other food crops. The cherries are harvested by hand only. Moplacocarefully monitors this selection process to guarantee coffees of a high quality. The Bensa washing station, located deep within the Sidamo highlands, producesfully-washed coffees called BensaSegera and BensaKokosa. Some of the cherries collected in Segera are also kept in order to produce a natural coffee. This coffee is dried on African beds ensuring optimum ventilation. All Moplaco coffees are processed at Addis Ababa where Heleanna, her team and our representatives in Ethiopia are on hand to ensure that standards are met during this crucial step
