Forêt d'Henna
Henna Anfilloo

About

Henna coffee is collected in the Anfilloo terroir of western Ethiopia in the Wallagga region. It is a highly reputed Nekemte coffee produced in an old coffee forest using manual agricultural practices. According to oral tradition, coffee has been cultivated for several centuries in the Anfilloo forest. Since the 19th century and the arrival of foreign traders, particularly Greeks and Italians, coffee growing has developed to meet these demands. The Anfilloo terroir owes its reputation to this unique history as well as its communal practicesinvolving the farming of small family plots, and the specific qualities of the coffee produced. This forest coffee is harvested at an altitude of about 2,000 metres, on steep and often hard-to-reach slopes. The coffee trees grow in a forest made up of endemic species, some of which are rare in Ethiopia. Wallaga’s rich biodiversity and very fertile volcanic soils give the coffee its character. Recognition of this Henna forest coffee has helped to spotlight and hence preserve the terroir and local practices. This coffee is dried on African beds at the station located at the Torban cooperative in Ubure. Our teams have been providing training at Henna for two years. Marjorie, our agronomist, has visited the Anfilloo region several times to help farmers perfect their harvesting techniques, etc. The results are now reflected in the increasingly subtle quality of this coffee.
