About

The Gushe Buna farm is divided into two plots: Abiy 1 (159 hectares) and Abiy 2 (162 hectares). It covers 369 hectares in the Kaffa region, 40 km from the main town of Bonga. It is situated at an altitude of 1900m in a rich natural environment. More than 10 different tree species make up the forest in which the coffee trees grow. These include the Qararo tree, which can grow to a height of 40m and is becoming increasingly rare in Ethiopia. The shade they provide keeps the coffee trees in these areas. Birbira trees, which can grow to over 15m tall, also provide shade. The decomposition of their leaves also helps to nourish the soil. The farm also has other well-known tree species such as Shego (Trichilia dregeana), Getem (Schefflera abyssinica), Birbira (Millettia ferruginea), Bisana (Croton macrostachyus), Shola and Chago/Abeyi (Maesa lanceolata). Here, a black volcanic soil supports this high biodiversity. This rich environment ensures the quality of coffee lots coming from 74110 and 74112 varieties. Cherries are naturally dried on African beds – 200 are installed on Gushe Buna farm.
