After living in the United States, Misael Ochoa returned to Honduras in 2013, a year before realizing his dream of living in the Honduran mountains and taking over this coffee farm. Of the farm's 10 hectares, 4 hectares are dedicated to coffee cultivation. The rest of his production consists of avocados, which he sells on the national market.
During the peak harvest season, Mis Penitas employs 14 people. The rest of the time, two individuals manage the farm. Misael only hand-weeds and preserves the trees on his plantation so that they continue to contribute to the health of his coffee trees. Today, between 40 and 50% of his farm's surface is under the shade of trees.
Regarding agricultural practices, Misael produces and uses organic fertilizer by mixing coffee pulp and manure to regenerate the soil.
