Kabingara
Kerugoya

About

Founded in 1988, Kabingara is located in central Kenya, in the Kirinyaga region, at an altitude of 1500 meters. The region experiences two rainy seasons: the long rains from March to May and the short rains from October to December, with an average rainfall of 1400 mm per year. The climate generally ranges from 13 to 24°C throughout the year. The farm boasts a sufficiently large space and efficient equipment to process and dry the coffee directly on site. The processing plant is also used by producers from the 4 neighboring villages (Kamwana, Gatumbi, Kithama, and Kathaka) who bring their cherry harvests for processing. The plant is managed by 6 permanent employees whose mission is to weigh, sort, and grade the coffee cherries. This meticulous work ensures impeccable coffee quality. During harvest periods, when work is much more intense, 2 to 10 seasonal employees provide support. Given the growing awareness of the need to preserve the environment, the plant is increasingly focusing its production methods on sustainable agriculture. For example, it has implemented wastewater recovery wells, allowing water to be reused for coffee production. From a social perspective, the plant supports farmers in developing their production in terms of both quantity and quality by financing loans and providing training.
