Klasik Beans is a cooperative founded in 2008 by a group of growers in Puntang on the island of Java. This small cooperative has a philosophy that complements Belco's in terms of quality, humanity and respect for the environment. The cooperative aims to preserve Indonesia's cultural heritage by producing organic, sustainable and fair trade coffee. The production must respect good agricultural practices (today almost organic & totally under shade). Their main plantations are in Java, but they have expanded to the islands of Bali, Flores and Sulawesi through partnerships with local producers. Sulawesi coffee is highly prized by the Japanese, who consider it the best Indonesian coffee. They create a strong demand by buying their coffee at source. The three main growing areas are Toraja, Kalosi and Enrekang. The Klasik Beans cooperative has chosen to work with producers in Enkareng, in a remote area called Latimojung.
At an altitude of 1400m, the coffee plantations are mainly under forest, whether endemic or planted. Since 2014, the producers, who are used to their traditional methods, are increasingly moving towards wet processing, which they have organised through associations which they have organised through associations. The coffees produced in the Latimojung area often have a cup with a nice acidity, fruity and spicy.
