About

The La Belgica farm is located in the Antioquia region near the city of Concordia. Located 95 kilometres from Medellin, which is the region’s capital, Aldrubal Gomez has 10 hectares of plantations. He has divided the land into four plots at different altitudes and with different soil characteristics. The valleys on the banks of the Cauca River benefit from a microclimate; they have a soil that has become fertile as a result of rich volcanic ash over recent centuries, ideal for producing high-quality coffees. The Colombian and Caturra seeds used are certified and germinated in the same coffee nursery, which allows him to avoid excessive use of agrochemicals and to respect the traditional production methods. During the harvesting period, experienced pickers select only ripe cherries which are then processed. La Belgica uses traditional methods and has standardised its coffee production processes to ensure optimum quality. The coffee is subject to a natural 24-hour fermentation process. It is then dried mechanically at the farm to more effectively control the process. Humidity is stabilised between 10% and 12% and the temperature does not exceed 40 °C, while avoiding odour contamination and bean damage.
