Fazenda Semente

Fazenda Semente
Cerrado Mineiro

About

Located in Patrocínio, in the Cerrado Mineiro region of Brazil, Fazenda Semente is a family Farm spanning 400 hectares dedicated to coffee cultivation. The Aguiar family has been growing coffee for nine generations. In the 1970s, Edmundo Aguiar, grandfather of the current generation, was among the pioneers who developed coffee farming in Cerrado Mineiro.

In 1988, his daughter began developing Fazenda Semente with 22 hectares of coffee trees, while the rest of the Farm was dedicated to dairy farming. Gradually, plantations replaced pastures until the farm became fully dedicated to coffee production in 1997.

Today, the Farm is managed by José Lucas, his mother, and his two sisters, Maria Vitória and Eugênia, with production exclusively dedicated to specialty coffees.

The farm notably cultivates the Catuaí, Topázio, IBC 12, Gaixa, and ISO varieties, selected taking into account their cup quality, productivity, and adaptation to the Terroir. To preserve soil Fertility and reduce the use of chemical fertilizers, Fazenda Semente produces its own organic Compost, uses cover crops, and favors biological fertilizers. It also operates thanks to a photovoltaic installation covering all of its electricity needs.

Certified Organic, Regenagri, and Rainforest Alliance, the farm is also engaged in a Regenerative Rainforest certification process.
After harvest, the coffees are mainly dried on patios. Four mechanical dryers complete the drying process or take over during rainy periods. The farm also features raised drying beds and facilities dedicated to storing and resting the coffees in order to control the various post-harvest stages.
