Yarer
Yarer Anfilloo

About

The Yarer area is located in the terroir of Anfilloo, in the Nekemte appellation. It is situated on a ridge line at the outskirts of the highlands in western Ethiopia, which then plunge down towards Gambella, then Sudan. This 38-hectare forest complex is the largest in the Anfilloo terroir. It is difficult to access because of its steep slopes and dense vegetation. As everywhere in this terroir, you will find ancient, often century-old, arboricultural species that can grow up to several tens of metres in height. This diversity is a major asset for the quality of the coffee harvested, which unfolds under optimum shade. Yarer coffee trees are particularly tall, often exceeding two metres. Each farmer has about ten hectares of land on average, which is put to optimum use by combining various food crops, used mainly to feed the family and sometimes sold at local markets. Coffee is an important source of income for these small farmers. Developing Yarer coffee sales is a means of recognising the work undertaken by these men and women.
