A few words about Kabonge Estate

Kabonge Estate grows and produces coffee in Kirinyaga region, around 5 kilometers outside the town of Kagumo, from the fertile soils found in the slopes of Mount Kenya. They plant gravellea for shade and maize, bananas and beans for sustenance. The majority of their harvest (95%) happens during first semester. Farms comprised of three or more hectares are able to acquire a grower’s license allowing them to wet mill and choose their marketing agent apart from the larger factories owned by the Farmer Cooperative Societies. This additional freedom allows for more quality control to happen in the hands of the farmer. The long term goal is to increase coffee production through farmer training, ready access to inputs, Good Agricultural Practice seminars, and providing the most current printed materials on sustainable farming.
