A few words about Pepe Montoya

Pepe Montoya started growing coffee in the 1970s when his parents left the Celendín region to settle in the San Ignacio region, more precisely El Laurel. Before producing coffee, his parents raised cattle, the family's livelihood, but when they left the area, they had to abandon farming. They then launched themselves into coffee following the visit of agricultural engineers who visited their neighbors, coffee producers. These same neighbors encouraged them to make the first seedlings of bourbon and caturra. “I knew that coffee was a source of income for us, but I could never imagine that we could improve our varieties, the quality in a cup and above all implement good agricultural practices and new infrastructure as a coffee farmer. " In collaboration with Coopagro since 2016, Pepe got into specialty coffee. The coop gives him advice, such as setting up a new pulper. All these projects motivate him to improve his production in quality and quantity.
