Luis Alfonso Hernandez and his wife Maria Leticia are the owners of this farm located at an altitude of between 1,950 and 2,100 metres, high up in the Caicedo mountains in the Antioquia region. They produce 100% Caturra. The first harvesting period of the year takes place from December to January, and is the most important in terms of volume. The second, also called the mitaca, takes place from May to June.
Colombia | Caicedo terroir | 4th in the Best Cup of Antioquia contest | Caturra
Luis Alfonso Murillo Hernandez and his wife Maria Leticia live on their farm at the top of the Caicedo mountain. Luis’ father was also a producer. He bought this farm, plot by plot, borrowing a little from his bank each time. Which was no easy task given the high interest rates and the prices at which his coffees were sold, which sometimes did not even cover production costs. As a result of great patience and determination, however, and despite this context, he was able to grow and successfully raise his 7 children.
In 2014, Luis participated in the Best Cup of Antioquia contest. He won 4th place, and is now more determined than ever to continue producing high-quality coffee.
“I have my sights set on specialty coffee, because it allows me to achievesomething not everyone is capable of. My farm is situated in a unique setting and we work hard to produce a better coffee.”
