Belco at La Marzocco's Out of the Box event
On December 3rd, 2023, we were lucky enough to take part in La Marzocco's Out of the Box event in Paris. Laure (Belco Equipment Manager), Louis (Sailing Transport Manager) and Céline (Business Developer France and Export) gave the whole La Marzocco community the Belco experience. They came back with the desire to do it all over again as soon as possible!
A first to showcase our profession
For the first time, Belco took part in an event dedicated to the public, organizing 2 workshops and taking part in 2 conferences, on the boom in specialty coffee at home and sustainability.
This was an opportunity to find out more about our business and to talk to other professionals (Brita, Oatly) about the markets of tomorrow and sustainability. In the morning and afternoon, we immersed the public in the world of coffee and cocoa sourcing and purchasing.

A public very curious about the upstream side of our industries
For 1 hour, the public discovered our vision and our way of working, with our agencies in Colombia, El Salvador and Ethiopia. We presented the projects we were carrying out on the ground to the public, at the same time as tasting a coffee from each country.
What struck us was the realisation that the general public already know a lot about our products as consumers.
But they're also very curious and keen to find out more about our supply chains. In particular, on the producer and transport side, with many questions about transport by sail, but also about what makes up the final price of a coffee or a bar of chocolate today.

Coffee and cocoa co-products: a new experience
This meeting was also an opportunity to present the co-products of coffee and cocoa, often tasting them for the first time. We extracted leaves and flowers from coffee trees and, of course, cascara, and we also extracted cocoa nibs for a different cocoa experience.
These were new ways of consuming cocoa for a public that had no idea of the environmental, social and economic impact of diversifying a producer's income. For them: more income, jobs beyond the seasons for the pickers, better value for money for the products, and so on.
A month later, the memory of that day makes us want to go out and meet this curious and passionate public again. We loved giving them a new experience of coffee and cocoa.
So, we look forward to seeing you soon at other events to discover our coffees, cocoa, co-products and transport by sail? To find out more about co-products and their benefits, don't hesitate to contact Laure. She'll be delighted to discuss it with you!
