A washed Wush Wush from the heart of Cauca.

Grown in the highlands of Cauca, Colombia, this washed Wush Wush offers a clean, structured cup with vibrant citrus acidity, silky mouthfeel, and floral sweetness.

With notes of white flowers, citrus, black tea, and soft spice, this rare variety reflects both the richness of its origin and the precision of its post-harvest process.

Originally from Ethiopia, Wush Wush is one of the rarest and most prized varieties in the world of specialty coffee, celebrated for its floral complexity, subtle sweetness, and silky texture. In the high-altitude mountains of Cauca, Colombia, this variety thrives in volcanic soils and cool Andean breezes, allowing for a unique and refined expression.

This lot is washed processed, meaning the fruit’s pulp is carefully removed after harvest, followed by controlled fermentation in tanks and a gentle washing to eliminate residual mucilage before drying. This method enhances the coffee’s clean cup structure and aromatic clarity, allowing the variety’s intrinsic elegance to shine.

This washed Wush Wush from Cauca is not only a refined expression of a rare variety, but also the result of meticulous post-harvest practices and a strong commitment to quality at origin.

Die Region Cauca

The Cauca region, located in the south-west of Colombia, covers an area of 29,308 km², or 2.56% of the national territory. It has played an important role in the country's historical development, both economically and politically, from colonisation to independence in 1810. Home to some of Colombia's most impressive volcanoes, Cauca benefits from fertile and rich volcanic soil, making it a key region for coffee cultivation.

Socially, Cauca is one of the most complex departments in the country. Its territory was inhabited in pre-Hispanic times by various indigenous groups such as the Jamundies, Pances, Paeces, Calotos, Patías, Guambianos and Guanacas. Today, the western descendants live mainly in the capital, Popayan, while the indigenous peoples occupy the mountainous and remote areas.

Cauca is a leader in the production of high quality coffee. Thanks to its climate, its varied topography influenced by the mountain ranges that run through it, and the tradition and passion of its people, it is the fourth largest coffee producer in the country. It even ranks first in terms of the number of coffee-growing families, with more than 93,000 families cultivating 94,500 hectares of Arabica varieties (Castillo, Colombia, Caturra, Típica, Borbón and Tabí) in 34 municipalities. The coffee is grown on small plots by peasant, indigenous and Afro-descendant communities. Since 2011, Cauca coffee has had a denomination of origin that defines it as a coffee with strong caramel notes, high acidity, medium body, a clean, smooth cup with sweet, floral notes.

Ein paar Worte zu Oscar Realpe

My story with coffee began in childhood. My grandfather, Don Buenaventura Paz, was a coffee grower, and my mother worked at the National Federation of Coffee Growers, so I grew up surrounded by coffee culture.

In 2010, my family purchased a farm in Vereda Buena Vista, Totoró (Cauca), with the goal of improving our quality of life through coffee production. Since then, we have focused on processes such as fermentation, drying, and selection, always aiming for specialty coffees.

One of our proudest achievements has been winning 2nd place in the Cauca Best Cup 2016 and ranking in the Top 20 of the Cup of Excellence 2022.

Over time, I realized that direct relationships with buyers could significantly improve my income. That is why I have learned about direct export, and for the past year, I have been attending international fairs to connect and sell without intermediaries.
