Having spent several years working as a CSR director for a multinational company, Helmi joined his wife Mehreen in the Grosche project. The couple wanted to have a strong impact on disadvantaged communities and found the means to take action on the ground. Profits from sales are used to fund the Grosche Safe Water project. 

Each Grosche product purchased provides more than 50 days of clean water to families who would not otherwise have access to it. Biosand filters are installed to supply clean water for these local communities. It is a filter designed to purify water in remote areas where the water is unsafe. It is made of cement, sand, gravel and clay. It requires no maintenance, no electricity, chemicals or replacement filter cartridges and can operate for up to 30 years. It is ideally suited to warm temperate climates and can be manufactured locally, thus also creating jobs and skills in the regions that need them most. Families are visited 30 days, 90 days and one year after installation.

CSR-Praxis

The company is involved in 3 projects:

  • A drinking water project: This is what the company is all about. So far, Grosche has developed drinking water projects in six countries: the Philippines, Malawi, Pakistan, South Sudan, India and Uganda. 
  • Planting of 10,000 trees: As a partner of Trees for the Future, the company has contributed to the planting of 10,000 trees in Haiti and Africa. 
  • Banana plantation: The company cultivates its own banana plantation in South Sudan to help the local population to diversify its income. 

Grosche pays particular attention to the workers in its partner facilities.

Helmi audited them all before signing any contract to ensure they meet Grosche’s CSR standards. It was also an opportunity for the brand to meet these workers and check the installations and safety conditions.
