Project overview
What is the context?
Since 2022, Belco has been working alongside Colombian producer Oscar Daza, owner and manager of La Pradera farm, through the Pilos del Café project. Together, we invested in the acquisition of a coffee plot adjacent to the local public school in Aratoca. Designed as both an educational and social initiative, this plot allows students to explore agronomy and agroecology while learning every step of coffee production, from planting to processing. The coffees produced on this plot directly support the school’s operations, helping to sustain local education year after year.
What does the project involve?
This edition is built on a simple and collective principle: for every kilogram of coffee purchased, €0.10 is donated to the project, and Belco contributes an additional €0.10.
-> A total of €0.20 is collected per kilo sold, helping to fund:
- A Christmas snack for the children
Part of the funds collected made it possible to organize a typically Colombian Christmas snack for the children of the Aratoca school. On the menu: arepas, shared moments, and a festive atmosphere, a joyful break in the middle of the school year.
- Young Laurina coffee trees for the school farm
The second focus of the 2025 project is the planting of young Laurina coffee trees, a rare variety that is naturally half-caffeinated and easily recognizable by its shape, reminiscent of a small Christmas tree. These plantings enrich the educational plot next to the school and support the transmission of agricultural knowledge, crop diversification, and the long-term sustainability of the educational project. In the long run, the coffees produced on this plot will continue to contribute to the school’s funding and to the training of future coffee producers.

"The event was truly beautiful. The children were excited, and we were able to spend a couple of hours with them at the school. They enjoyed arepas with blackberry juice, and we also took some time to explain the initiative that Belco and the roasters are supporting this year. We shared who we are and what Belco does, and since the Laurina coffee trees are still in the germination stage, we gave them a large gift card representing the Laurina trees they will receive when they return from vacation in February 2026.
We also had the opportunity to visit the plot where the coffee is grown and to see the coffee cherries the children have been harvesting."
