ABOUT
70% of our MOMBACHO comes from the Sajonia Estate cooperative in the Matagalpa region. Manfred Guenke, manager of this coop since 2016, is the third generation of organic coffee producers and he brings this new vision of agricultural practices to Sajonia. Coffee production supports a local program.
Campesinos program:
1- Support for family coffee growing in protected areas. The project involves 300 small producers located in 4 high-altitude coffee areas (Peñas Blancas, El Arenal, Datanlí El Diablo, Cerros Yalí) in the departments of Jinotega and Matagalpa. These farms border a large protected nature reserve.
2 - Offer a local logistics solution for coffee collection
3 - Supports quality through technical advice offered by 4 technicians from Sajonia to improve quality and offer a market.
The challenge is above all to preserve this nature reserve by providing an economic and technical solution to producers.
About 300 small producers with traditional agroforestry practices produce this coffee. There are around 150-200 trees per hectare with a mixture of low strata, middle strata and high strata which limit the use of chemicals, but also dampen temperature variations and draw rainwater.
