An initiative to support women coffee producers.

Women play a vital role, taking part in every stage of the supply chain but often handling the most time-consuming, most seasonal and lowest-paid tasks (like sowing, harvesting and sorting). Studies show that when women manage household income, there are many benefits: better child education, health, economic stability and overall family wellbeing.

For 10 years, we have been taking practical action to protect and develop forests through our Forest Coffees® brand

Forest Coffees® are ultra-high-quality coffees grown in well-preserved environments. Our trademark recognizes the know-how of local farmers and their in-depth knowledge of coffee agroforestry techniques. It illustrates the model’s environmental, social and economic merits.

Agroforestry allows farmers to diversify their income: agricultural production, timber and firewood, fodder, fruit, honey, etc. And thus reduce the vulnerability of the producer with less dependence on a single crop. The impact on biodiversity and soil quality is also considerable.

Fresh Coffee Clean Ocean: Our brand that guarantees you a decarbonized sea transport by 70 to 90% for your coffees.

&nbsp;Colombia produces exclusively Arabica, because Robusta is neither supported nor authorized by the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation, the FNC. This means we cannot export Robusta because there can be no certificate of origin, and because no phytosanitary rules have been established for this type of coffee. Coffee production is the main source of employment in rural areas.&nbsp;
The coffee-growing regions are mountainous areas. 90% of producers have very small plantations (0.80 hectares on average). The average age of a grower is 53. Many producers practice mixed farming to diversify their income (chickens, eggs, etc.). Numerous local associations and cooperatives have been set up to help growers through the various stages of the supply chain: growing, harvesting, post-harvest processing, transport, packaging, projects and certification.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<div>Colombia is located at the north-western tip of South America and covers an area of 1,141,748 km². It is bordered by the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. It is crossed from north to south by the Andes mountain range, which divides into three branches near its southern end: the Cordillera Occidental, the Cordillera Central and the Cordillera Oriental. To the east of the Cordillera Oriental lie the Orinoco river, the Llanos plain and the Colombian Amazon. Colombia’s other mountain ranges include the Serranía del Baudó and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Six of their summits stand higher than 5,000 metres. The different climates are determined by the amount of rainfall. In the plains and lowlands (situated at an altitude of less than 500 metres), the average temperature is 25 °C. The mountains and valleys located at altitudes of over 500 metres have a wide diversity of climates. They can be very humid, rainy, dry, and even very dry. The country’s size and geographical diversity partly explain the great aromatic diversity and the different harvest periods.&nbsp;</div>

The department of Quindío is the smallest of the country's continental territory, with a surface area of 1,845 km2. It stands out in the country for the strong roots of the coffee culture and for its natural wealth, represented by exuberant vegetation and a great diversity of ecosystems.

A couple of facts demonstrate the importance of coffee in this region: all of Quindío's 12 municipalities are coffee producers, and 207 of its 267 villages are coffee-growing. The department is the twelfth largest coffee producer in the country (out of 20), with an estimated annual production of 666,000 60-kilogram bags of green coffee or, in other words, 6 % of the Colombian harvest.
Quindío is one of the departments that make up the Eje Cafetero, which was once abundant in coffee crops before being devastated by a major earthquake in 1999. From then on, its expansion and recognition began to be directed towards tourism for its beautiful landscapes and colonial towns. Today, its fertile land continues to be attractive for coffee and other crops, especially in the mountain range area in the municipalities of: Pijao, Buenavista and Génova where soils rich in organic matter are still preserved.&nbsp;

The cherries are pulped and then fermented in water. Microbial activity breaks down the mucilage. After fermentation, they are washed in water to remove the remaining mucilage. The coffee is separated when it has a moisture content of 11%.

Genova is a village located in the region of Quindio. As the most traditional and ancient coffee region, Quindio has been one of the most important departments and sources of development of coffee culture in Colombia. Its towns are one of the most touristy and visited places in Colombia and coffee is the main attraction for visitors. In fact, the coffee culture, which has developed for decades in the region, was the main factor for the recognition by UNESCO of the Coffee Cultural Landscape (CCL), which means that the landscape and its culture should be protected as cultural heritage of humanity. It is not only about coffee, the elements of this culture are related to traditional cars, typical food and the beautiful structure and colours of the houses in the coffee towns and farms. Average temperatures range from 16 to 22°C. The municipality, like the rest of the Department, benefits from its position within the Andean region due to its diverse thermal floors, which provide significant opportunities for agricultural production diversification and overall land use. Its strategic location can be seen as a development hub, leveraging its potential in water resources, biological diversity, soil quality, economic factors, and cultural assets. In Génova, there are approximately 774 coffee-producing families who cultivate their coffee at elevations ranging from 1,500 to 1,900 meters above sea level, in a loamy-clay soil type.&nbsp;
