This coffee bears in its name a history of which we are proud to be a part

This high-altitude coffee, produced in the La Libertad area (Huehuetenango region), is a blend of two Arabica varieties harvested only at optimum ripeness: red bourbon and caturra.

It was our Sourcing Director at the time, Angel Barrera, who inspired the name La Mochilita when he set out to discover the region on several occasions, always accompanied by his rucksack. It means "little rucksack" in Spanish.
To ensure the traceability of our coffee, we have decided to have La Mochilita processed in a single factory to ensure a much more consistent profile. La Mochilita is produced on limestone soil typical of the high-altitude Huehuetenango region, and is therefore distinguished by its complexity and acidity.

While most producers in the region cultivate between 1 and 10 hectares of coffee, the larger size of our partner's plots means that we do not blend batches from several producers. This means we can control every stage in the preparation of this washed coffee.

Die Plantage Finca la Bolsa

Tucked away in majestic mountains, La Bolsa gives the impression of being laid out in a sack, which is why it has such an unusual name: "Bolsa" means "sack" in Spanish. This magnificent 108-hectare historic farm lies on limestone soil at an altitude of between 1,300 and 1,600 metres. It's a timeless place that enjoys excellent weather conditions.

While the farm's very high altitude is a rare feature, what sets it apart from others is its constant quest for perfection and innovation. Here, the quality of the coffee is at the heart of everything we do. The harvesting and drying processes are constantly questioned and improved to produce exceptional coffee.

Ein paar Worte zu Renardo Ovalle

Renardo Ovalle is the third generation of the family to produce coffee in the Huehuetenango region of northern Guatemala. Owner of the La Bolsa, El Rincon and Las Terrazas farms, the company has taken on the name "Vides 58" in homage to the farm's founder, his grandfather Jorge Vides.

A doctor by profession, Jorge Vides left his son, producer and Q Grader, a humanist philosophy that has remained at the heart of the farm and the Ovalle family. The passion of Renardo and his workers for their craft can be felt right down to the cup.

Today, the Ovalle family is one of the most recognised Guatemalan families in the world of speciality coffee. Their numerous Cup of Excellence awards and the positioning of their coffees in the world's most renowned roasting houses have helped them earn this reputation.
